If you’re dreaming of natural, unposed family photos with golden light, room for play and an easy, kid-led flow—Bicentennial Park delivers. As a Sydney family photographer, I shoot here often at sunset because it offers soft, flattering light, safe open spaces and variety without long walks for little legs.
Why this park works beautifully for families
Bicentennial Park has generous lawns, textured greenery and sheltered paths, which means we can move gently with the light and your child’s mood. There’s space for running races, shoulder rides and twirls, plus quieter nooks for cuddles. We keep the session relaxed and playful so you genuinely enjoy the time together—your photos will show it.

Best time for sunset photos (kid-friendly timing)
I schedule sessions to start around 60–75 minutes before sunset. That window gives us:
Soft, even light to start (perfect for warming up and little attention spans).
Golden glow as the sun lowers—beautiful on skin tones and movement.
Pastel finish as the sky softens—ideal for those calm, connected frames at the end.
Summer starts later (pack water and a light snack); winter starts earlier (great for toddler bedtimes). If your little one is in a prickly phase, we can bring it forward slightly—flexibility is part of the plan.
What we’ll do (a calm, kid-led flow)
Arrive & warm up – a gentle walk, little games to shake out nerves.
Connection moments – forehead kisses, cheek squishes, hand-in-hand frames.
Play & movement – piggybacks, “find a leaf/flower”, a big family squeeze.
Stillness at the end – cuddles as the light softens, then we wrap right on sunset.
Sessions typically run about 60 minutes. We can pause for feeds, nappy changes and regrouping whenever needed - no stress, no rush.

What to wear (palettes that love this location)
This park sings with warm neutrals and olives. Choose pieces that move and breathe—linen shirts, floaty dresses, ribbed tees, light knits; avoid neon and heavy logos (they can colour-cast and distract).
Easy palette ideas:
Oatmeal/cream/tan with a hint of soft rust
Sage/olive mixed with stone or sand
Denim + linen textures
One subtle print (gingham/floral) paired with solid colours for everyone else
Bring a light layer for after-sun chill in autumn/winter, an
d comfy shoes for grassy paths.
See my blog on what to wear this spring!

Accessibility & little comforts
Paths are generally pram-friendly, however, there is a hill which we will climb (not pram friendly) so bring a foldable stroller or take your valuables and leave the pram at the bottom of the hill (or just bring a baby carrier!). I can build in mini breaks and keep prompts simple to cater for your children - think movement first, then connection, then play.
